Faces of Black Detroit - African World Festival 2021

After not experiencing the family reunion that is African World Festival in 2020 due to the state of things, I was happy to immerse myself in the culture, the vendors, the food, and music this year. I captured photos of beautiful Black faces and moments while I was there.

It's the rituals that save us.

I’ve had my share of rituals, I define them as continual intentional practices, not always religious but absolutely spiritual. Some of them I hold in my memory, while others become one with my body and breath.

I’ve been working to keep track of the rituals that I’ve immersed myself in through time and share them here with the hope that they become a piece of us all forging new, healthy, liberated ways of being.

Any that call to you, please share them or add your own in the comments.
